Change as a “What” Problem
Looking at change as a “how” problem causes us to focus on the means to achieve a pre-determined goal. There is little or no diagnosis involved in that approach. Alternatively, when we look at change as a “what” problem we focus on the end rather than the means. What are we trying to accomplish? What will signal success? What specific changes are necessary? What will the new standards be? What questions will bring our efforts to bear on the desired ends.
