The Necessary Nag?
“But if I don’t nag at her, she will never do it” How many of us have said this about a child, a spouse, an employee? For that matter, how many of us have been the child, spouse or employee in question? If you are the “nag”… make and hold eye contact before giving direction to make sure you’ve been heard. Provide specific deadlines for completion, and (if appropriate) state the consequences of non-completion. Finally, ask for a recap to make sure your expectations are clear. On the other hand, if you are the one being ragged on and you would like it to stop, pull yourself away from current distractions, listen carefully to the request then clearly indicate whether you are willing and/or able to comply and within what timeframe.
