A Question of Values
Occasionally an organization makes the decision to change its entire way of doing business including its guiding principles. Aside from the fact that this is the most difficult type of change to bring about, it also presents a different set of challenges for employees. What can employees do when the new culture and value system of the organization conflicts with their personal values? This internal conflict is called cognitive dissonance and it creates significant psychological distress in the individual who struggles to bring behavior and values back into alignment. In the end, when the actions required by your job conflict with unalterable personal values; it is time to find a new work environment.
