Eric Von Hipple of the MIT Business School made many studies of the sources of innovation in the electronics industry and found that more than 70% of product innovations came from the users, who initially can't find the tools or equipment they need on the market and are forced to develop them in-house. If you are working on a problem with an existing product or service, or are struggling with new product development, ask your customers for their input.
