What is Propriety?

We all have an internal set of rules about the right way to do things. Influenced by culture, religion, environment, and personal values, these rules provide an internal barometer for gauging appropriateness in ourselves and in others. If someone violates our sense of propriety by breaking or flouting one of our internal rules, even unintentionally, we find them hard to trust. Since trust is essential for connection, it is important that we try to understand the propriety ground rules for any person or group we would like to connect with.
