Making Progress
Different people persuade and influence others in different ways. Some use a form of intellectual bullying, using their obvious competence as a club to beat down resistance. While others are great relationship builders who weave a web of comfort and acceptance in order to bring detractors around to their way of thinking. When you are actively trying to convince people to your point of view, consider both your style of persuasion (is it effective?) and your motivation (is it best for all?). And ask yourself this question, “am I focused on being right…or on making progress?”
